Farmer Protest for Agri Law Reforms
17 December, 2020: By Ajoy Maitra

It has been two long weeks since the farmers have coupled into a protest against the Central Agri Reforms. Under the backing of 'All-India Kisan Sangharsh Sangathan Coordination Committee', the farmers agreed on protesting against the reforms by the Central Government claiming such at odds with the interests of farmers.

The bills highlighting concerns are - Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Prince Assurance and Farm Services Bill 2020, ensured such continued agitations on repealing the farm laws. Inert on their demands, they pursued further on their march to Delhi with slogan as "Delhi Chalo", as the delegation of a group of 29 farmer leaders from Haryana, led by Bharatiya Kisan Union (Mann) leader Guni Prakash, supported the Government - stating as,

We will also protest if the government repeals the laws... We are in support of the three laws, but this protest is being led by Leftists and those who are violent. It has taken a political colour. Farmers will get real freedom through these three laws.

At a latest conference, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on December 12, has emphasized on the benefits to farmers on regard to such reforms as they would explore new markets in gaining from the technological advancements and investments. As spoken at the virtual 93rd Annual Convention of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry,

But imagine what would happen when unnecessary walls are erected between industries. No industry will grow as fast as it should... These reforms will give farmers new markets, advantages of technology, and help bring investments. It is my country's farmers who will benefit the most from all this.

TECHNOLOGIES USED

Chapatti Machine

As the protest ventures forth, basic amenities are being monitored so that such would not be hampered. Machines catering for 1000 to 1200 chapattis in an hour has been installed to ensure timely meals for the protesters as the punjabi's humble way of serving 'langar' continues to serve plates till midnight. As per the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee member, Hardeep Singh stated,

We start the machine around 7 am and it runs till 12 am. We serve meals to over 5,000 people every day.

Such automated machine eliminates hustle and hectic involvement of people staying away from their homes. As per the report by NDTV, this automated roti machine is usually used in the Gurudwaras including the Golden Temple as they serve around 1000 devotees in a day. Further tea and snacks are been provided in support of the protests, by the Khalsa Aid Foundation, including kheer and bottled waters, as spoken by the Director of the Foundation to NDTV.

As the protestors continues to march forward, they require mobile facilities to ensure basic needs are fulfilled without any difficulties. Innovative ways are supported to make a mobile solar panel on tractors which would facilitate charging of mobile phones and lights at night.

Issues as staying away from home requires maintaining contact and as means of light at night time, solar panels serve major availability of needs. Hardeep Singh noted on such facilities with contentment as issues are being taken care of,

At night we require light to be able to distribute food. The 10 of us in the team need our phones to stay in touch with our family and to contribute with the people who bring the food.

Scorched by the protests, people had the difficulties of bathing and washing clothes as initially they have used petrol pumps for such requirement. However, good hearts among them resolved the issue by donating washing machines to their fellow protestors as this eased out their laundry.

As narrated by Prince Sandhu, one of the protesters,

Nearly 250 people come here every day to wash their clothes. Many do it on their own. We help out the elderly who don't know how to operate washing machines. I wake up at 6 am and help people wash their clothes till 8 pm
